Ginger Cookies

 1 ½ cups cup of shortening
 1 cup sugar
 2 cups molasses
 9 cups flour
 6 tsp baking soda
 4 tsp ginger
 1 tsp cloves
 1 tsp cinnamon
 1 tsp salt
 1 ⅓ cups water
 ½ cup Approximate cup of white sugar for coating cookies before cooking.

Cream shortening and add br. Sugar and cream well. Beat in molasses.

Sift flour, baking soda, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with water. Blend well and chill for several hours.

Roll cookie dough into balls and place on cookie sheet. Flatten the ball with a small glass that has been dipped into a bowl with white sugar. Bake at 350 degrees.
