Get To Know Baba
I was inspired to start Cooking with Baba one day while teaching family friends how to make a meat pie. Their daughter Olivia was joined in, and she so enjoyed working along side as we created a meal for the young family to take home
I am a Baba (grandmother in Ukrainian) to 7 wonderful grandchildren. I love to cook with each of them. I am in my happy place when I can make a meal or fresh cinnamon buns for those I love and those who love to eat. Seeing friends and family smile as they enjoy one of my creations fills my cup to overflowing.
My love of cooking started out began when I was about 12 years old I was tasked with feeding my dad and siblings while my mom went back to school to upgrade her nursing degree. I would help my mom when she was home on the weekend make the meals for the coming week I would be responsible to prepare the meals in the evening after I got home from school.
My love of cooking began when my Auntie Julianna who was my own Baba figure. She taught me how to make all the Ukrainian dishes that my family loves. She also taught me how simple a meal could be but still tasted amazing with the right ingredients and preparation.
I love to cook meals that are wholesome and nutritionally sound. I also love making baked goods, such as cinnamon buns, doughnuts, bread, and buns. I am also known for my Ukrainian food, especially Perogies.
Cooking with Baba is a great place for young kids and families to learn some of the basics of cooking basics and how to have fun making good food amazing with the right ingredients, preparation and a sprinkle of love.
All cooks will be provided with tools that they can use to make their creations. They will learn tips and tricks of cooking, and this will encourage young people to try foods that they might not regularly try.
The classes will have different themes and skills to learn. Some of the classes the kids will go home with a full meal for 4. Some classes may be just a cookie making or decorating class. The classes will change as we grow.
Most of the recipes that I will be teaching will be recipes that I have collected since I was a child.
Some of the recipes will be favorites that I made as a child or those that I used while cooking for my children.
